“The Folly of Desire brings together two giants from different realms.“
We are happy to launch Pentatone’s personal pick of the month!
Our wonderful Head of Catalogue, Product & Curation – Kasper van Kooten – recommends The Folly of Desire.
“The Folly of Desire brings together two giants from different realms: jazz pianist and composer Brad Mehldau and tenor and art song expert Ian Bostridge. Together, they perform Mehldau’s brand new song cycle The Folly of Desire, a thought-provoking exploration of sexual desire as a vital, enchanting force, yet one with many dark, violent undercurrents. Combining poetry from several eminent Anglophone and German writers, Mehldau skilfully weaves together a jazz-inspired sound world with reminiscences of classical art song. Bostridge’s vocal delivery reveals a deep kinship to this project and its composer. I cannot think of anything like it, and am very proud that we’re able to host this exceptional project on our label.“
