“This is the perfect occasion for you to discover a lesser-known composer and we definitely could not be in better hands than the legend Camarena with the fantastic pianist Rodríguez.“
Our wonderful Product Coordinator- Francesca Mariani – recommends Sogno: Tosti Songs, by Javier Camarena and Ángel Rodríguez.
“I was lucky enough to meet Javier Camarena in Bergamo at the end of 2022, during his performing days at the Donizetti Theatre. We had an Italian cappuccino together and afterwards he offered me a private tour of the Teatro while it was completely empty. I think this was one of my most memorable moments of my days at Pentatone. I was so impressed by Javier’s humbleness while being one of the greatest tenors of our days.
My pick of the month is “Sogno: Tosti Songs” by Javier Camarena and Ángel Rodríguez for many reasons: the most incredible reason is that there is a special connection between my personal story and Francesco Paolo Tosti’s story. First of all, we both have the same two first names (Francesco Paolo and I’m Francesca Paola), and also, we both left our beautiful native country, Italy, to follow our dreams.
Tosti’s songs became very successful in England. I didn’t make connections in the highest levels of the English society like Tosti did, but in the end, we both developed our careers outside our home country. I would like you to enjoy the music of this album, the powerful way Javier interprets these songs, and the way vocals and piano are so gracefully merged. “Vorrei Morire!” and “Chitarrata Abruzzese” are two of my absolute favourites where Javier manages to combine technical perfection with a deep and passionate interpretation.
This is the perfect occasion for you to discover a lesser-known composer and we definitely could not be in better hands than the legend Camarena with the fantastic pianist Rodríguez. I am grateful I closely worked on this project and that I contributed to the cover concept too. Special thanks to Javier, for trusting us and for making it so much fun and easy working together on this album.”
