SWAN LAKE JUST AS TCHAIKOVSKY INTENDED IT

This stereo re-issue returns Vladimir Jurowski’s exceptional complete recording of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake from 2018 to the physical market in an attractively-priced edition. Upon its first release, it was equally praised for its impeccable performance and the origami techniques used for the artwork. Swan Lake is the first of the three great ballets that Tchaikovsky wrote, and arguably the most famous. The piece is mainly known in the shape it obtained in 1895, when it became a classic in the choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. That “imperial” version strayed from Tchaikovsky’s world premiere score, with several cuts, abridgements and displacements. This recording presents the work as it was heard during the 1877 world premiere performance, highlighting the extraordinary symphonic qualities of Tchaikovsky’s original conception, as well as Jurowski’s proficiency in this great Russian repertoire. Jurowski performs Swan Lake together with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov”, of which he was the Artistic Director until 2021.

This album is a re-released version of PTC5186640 (first released in 2018 as a SACD).
