Album information

Among the events around the 200th anniversary of Richard Wagner’s birth, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, in 2010, embarked on a project to record Wagner’s ten most important operatic works under the baton of Marek Janowski.

The operas were recorded live in concert versions, enabling the listener exclusively to concentrate on the music. The concept behind this critically acclaimed cycle is as disarmingly simple as it is ingenious: to present only what Wagner himself has to say.

Das Rheingold is the awe-inspiring 7th release in PentaTone’s unique Wagner Edition and the first to occur during the Wagner Year. A colossal artistic vision of the emergence and decline of a world, Das Rheingold is the first of the Ring Cycle’s four pillars.
