CD information

After years of success in the most prominent tango circles in Argentina, Dutch banoneon player Carel Kraayenhof finally gained massive public recognition during the royal wedding of Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima in 2002. Kraayenhof’s performance of Piazzolla’s best-known composition, ‘Adiós Nonino,’ moved Argentinian Princess Máxima, as well as many television viewers, to tears.

This very royal performance with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and Netherlands Chamber Choir led to the idea to record this CD with its unique, large-scale format – with the addition of Kraayenhof’s own Sexteto Canyengue.

‘Tango Royal’ includes ‘Aconcagua’, Astor Piazzolla’s concerto for bandoneon, strings, piano, harp and percussion, dating from 1979.
