The recordings are uniformly excellent, all made in Geneva's Victoria Hall, home of the orchestra, and though one does not associate the Suisse Romande with this repertoire, they play it with the skill and enthusiasm one expects from one of Europe's best bands.
With this programme one should stirr up New Year's Day at the Vienna Musikverein....
This varied collection of music associated with 'The Dance' is what record companies used to call a 'sonic spectacular' – a description well suited to this SACD. While one may have slight reservations about a couple of the performances on this SACD, 65 minutes of captivating music, executed with style and flare, and recorded in state-of-the-art sound will be for many a no-brainer.
